Why are Avis making these changes?
Over recent years, throughout the world, losses due to the theft of payment card details have increased dramatically and in addition fraud and theft of payment card details is becoming more sophisticated.
Avis Europe is fully aware that customers are becoming increasingly more sensitive to identity theft and expect diligence from companies that accept their payment cards and to that end Avis Europe takes data security very seriously.
Avis Europe is currently implementing changes necessary to ensure compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard ("PCI DSS").
What is the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard ("PCI DSS")?
The payment card industry – Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Diners – have worked together to issue the PCI DSS. The PCI DSS applies to all companies accepting debit, credit or charge cards and seeks to ensure proper controls are in place to protect stored debit, credit and charge card data and to log access to such information. The standard provides a tangible method of assessment that confirms a company has the necessary controls in place for the processing and protection of payment card data.
How do I obtain more information about PCI DSS?
You can visit the PCI website at https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/
When will Avis be making the changes to online payment methods?
On 28/09/2009 we will refine online profiles so that only one payment method is contained in your profile.
Can I remove payment methods myself so that I have one payment method in my profile?
Yes just login to your online account, select payment methods from the left hand menu and click the remove button on those cards that you would like to remove.
I am an Avis Preferred customer, do I need to do anything?
You will already have provided a Preferred payment method. This is the one that we will retain. However if you would like to view what payment methods you have in your online profile you can login to your online account, select payment methods from the left hand menu and review the payment methods you have in your profile you can also click the remove button on those cards that you would like to remove or change your Avis Preferred payment method.
