Art in Movement

Travellers on the Bica, Lavra, Gloria and Santa Justa Elevators will be surprised with a very different kind of trip and are invited to enjoy the public art exhibits in the interiors and exteriors of these Lisboa traditional forms of transport. Alexandre Farto, Vasco Araujo, Susana Anagua and Susana Mendes Silva are the four Portugese artists who have mixed art and mobility with the aim of establishing a bridge between a past, present and future filled with stories and experiences. For the Bica Elevator, Alexdre Farto has created a project based on an intervention on the exterior of the tram making it a mirror of everything around it.

The work by Susana Anagua at the Gloria Elevator is based on a mechanical exercise - the exchange of forces - between the elavator's two cabins. On the Laura Elevator Vasco Araujo presents a journey as a meeting point. As for the Santa Justa Elevator, Susana Mendes Silva aims to create a dialogue activating a translated message in various languages for all its passengers.

Fantasporto's 30th edition

Porto will once again be hosting the Fantasporto - (International Fantastic Film Festival), officially starting on 26th February, at the Rivoli Municipal Theatre.

It is the 30th edition of a unique event. Many surprises will be featuring at Rivoli, from the offical opening with ''Solomon Kane'', by Michael Basset, to the closure with ''Crazies'', starring Penelope Cruz and Matthew Mc Conaughey. Don't miss the homage paid to the film director Luis Galvao Teles, the special attention given to the French cinema, the SFX workshop and the retrospective on cinema and robotics. Another highlight will be the directors' week, under the patronage of Manoel de Oliveira.

As you can see, there are many reasons for you to head to Rivoli in February and March!

On the coastline facing south, where the sea is calmer and the sandy beaches more extensive, it is very easy to find beaches with facilities for driving, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, waterskiing, parasailing, jet skiing, kitesurfing, and rides in speedboats, pedal boats (gaivotas) and inflatable 'banana' boats. These activities are offered at Meia Praia, Praia de Luz (Luz Beach), Faro (Faro beach), and IIha de Tavira (Tavira Island).

MADERIA
The 2010 edition of the Madeira Island Golf Open, which is part of the main PGA European Tour, will be held at Porto Santo Golfe during the month of April.
This year's prize money is EUR 700,000.
After being held at Santo da Serra Golf Club on Madeira Island for many years, this year it will be held once again on the paradisical island of Porto Santo.
