What is Vehicle Theft Cover?
Vehicle Theft Cover (TP) covers the cost of replacing the rental car (or parts of it) if it gets stolen. You may have to pay an excess which can be reduced by purchasing the Excess Reduction cover when you when you collect your car at the rental location.Click here for details of our additional covers and excess reduction.
Will I be charged an excess in the event of damage to or theft of my vehicle?
If the rental car is damaged you may have to pay an excess. The amount of the excess varies depending on:
- The type of car you have rented:
- Whether you have chosen to reduce the excess liability by purchasing an additional coverage
- The country that you are renting in
You will be able to see the excess for the vehicle you have selected during the booking process.

What is Public Liability/Property Damage coverage (PLPD)?
In Australia and Canada, the equivalent to Third Party Cover is called PLPD.
Am I covered for liability?
All Avis vehicles in Eire are automatically covered for Legal Liability, Third Party and Public Liability, as required by law. This is included in your rental price.It covers you in case you cause damage to someone or something, including passengers and their property, when using the Avis vehicle.
In some countries, we recommend Additional Liability Insurance (ALI), as the statutory limits are not very high (notably in North America, where ALI is normally included in the quote).
Is insurance included in the rate quoted?
Your rental quote will normally include basic cover Collision Damage Insurance and Vehicle Theft Cover. You can purchase additional cover when you pick up your car,such as Personal Accident Insurance and products to reduce your excess. Click here to find out more about our additional covers
What is Vehicle/Collision Damage Cover?
Vehicle/Collison Damage Cover covers you for the cost of repairs to the Avis vehicle in the event of damage (except by attempted theft). You will, however, have to pay an excess amount. Declining Vehicle/Collision Damage Cover?
We recommend that you fully understand the conditions of cover provided by your credit card company when using your card for insurance cover.
If you have your own insurance cover, you must produce a copy of your motor insurance policy at the time of rental.
If you decide not to purchase CDI and Theft Protection you will be required to pay a liability deposit of EUR €3,000 at the start of your rental using your credit card. An administration fee of EUR €30.00 applies for use of this service.
