Can I pick up the car if I dont hae a full licence?

No when renting with Avis you need to have a full valid driving licence with no endorsements. Please contact our reservations centre if you have any queries 1890 22 33 55.


What if I am going to return the car later than agreed?

If you need to extend your rental please call your rental station as soon as possible so your insurance can be extended for the new period of rental. If you are late by less than 29 minutes there is no need to contact us.


Can I pick up a car on one island and drop it off on another?

Generally, it is not permitted to take Avis cars on ferries. In Ireland rental cars are allowed to be taken into Northern Ireland but not off the island entirely. In the UK there are Avis rental locations on the Channel Islands and on the Isle of Man. In southern Europe (Spain, Greece) we have stations on most of the islands and in New Zealand we offer a special cross island deal (returning the car on the same island and picking up another one on the other) as part of the same rental.


What happens when I return the car?

You will need to return the keys to the Avis desk. A rental agent will check the car and the fuel. You will be sent a bill detailing any additional charges. At some airport locations, we offer Rapid Return: An Avis assistant will meet you and produce a receipt instantly from a hand-held terminal.



What does Pay Now and Pay Later mean?

Pay Now
is when you prepay for your at the time of booking online. Terms and conditions of pre-payment
Pay Later
is when you pay the total amount at the rental station on return of your rental car Pay Now bookings often provide you a discount versus the Pay Later price and also allow you to budget effectively for your rental car prior to your travel dates.

When you collect your car, you will need to present a credit card in the name of the driver, even if you have opted for pre-pay. We process it for authorization on the estimated charges/ additional charges. The charges will only be made to your credit card once your rental in completed.

Declining Collision Damage Insurance/Theft Protection

CDI (Collision Damage Insurance) and Theft Protection insurance reduce your financial liability for damage or theft of the vehicle.
By declining these insurances you are taking responsibility to arrange your own cover and assume full financial liability up to the value of the vehicle for losses arising as a result of loss or damage to the vehicle.

We recommend that you fully understand the conditions of cover provided by your credit card company when using your card for insurance cover.

If you decide not to purchase CDI and Theft Protection you will be required to pay a liability deposit of EUR €3,000 at the start of your renyal using your credit card. An administration fee od EUR €30.00 applies for use of this service.

What is the minimum rental period?

The minimum rental period is 24 hours.



What happens if I am going to be late to pick up my car?

If you rent at an airport and you have given us your flight number during the booking process, we will be aware of any delayed flights. Otherwise, ring the rental location if you know you are going to be delayed by more than one hour.



If I bring the rental car back early, can I have a refund?

You'll only have to pay for the time you take the car - charged in periods of 24 hours with a 29 minute grace period. For example 25 hours counts as 2 days.
